Record Number of Students Headed to Rome for Spring 2023
For the Spring 2023 Semester, the Lasallian Universities Center for Education in Rome, Italy will serve a record 22 college students; the most students since the program began five years ago. Most students are from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois while three students are from Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York. LUCE offers full-semester programs for Lasallian students from around the world. Its programs are designed to develop specifically Lasallian international study abroad experiences and to enrich the sense of belonging in the worldwide Lasallian community. WLRA Raises Funds for Advocate Childrens Hospitals
Lewis University WLRA's Marathon Broadcast raised over $2,000 this semester for Advocate Children's Hospitals. Since its inception, WLRA has raised over $100,000 in support of the Lewis University Family Assistance Fund at Advocate Children's Hospitals. The fundraiser involves a 24-hour non-stop broadcast of students that take six-hour shifts. Select Lewis University students are on the air for longer stints. Lewis University's Philip Lynch Theatre Presents 'A Christmas Carol'
"A Christmas Carol," adapted for the stage by Joe Landry, will have performances on November 18-20 and December 1-4 at Lewis University's Philip Lynch Theatre. The first weekend performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday. The second-weekend performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Saturday and Sunday. Ticket purchases are $13 for an adult and $12 for students and seniors. Lewis students pay $3 with an ID. The running time of the show is approximately 75 minutes. The Philip Lynch Theatre production will be a radio play adaptation of Charles Dickens's "A Christmas Carol." The Holiday classic comes to life as a live 1940s radio broadcast, complete with vintage commercials and the magic of live sound effects and musical underscoring. A handful of actors bring dozens of characters to the stage, as the familiar story unfolds: Three ghosts take Ebenezer Scrooge on a thrilling journey to teach him the meaning of Christmas. A charming take on a family favorite that will leave no one saying, "Bah Humbug!" The Christmas Carol cast features the following Lewis University students: Katelyn L. Butt, Andrew Dills, Brianna Hall, Justin (Juice) McCarthy, Gwen Pasowicz, Chloe Sheppard, Brendan Roark, Lukas Roy, Mac Maher and Alex Schedel with Courtney Mason as the understudy/swing.

Lewis Men's Cross Country Finishes Runnerup at GLVC Championships Saturday
The Lewis University men's cross country team finished in second place at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships at Principia College Cross Country Course hosted by McKendree University. The Flyers were denied their bid for a third straight crown when they finished with 36 points finishing behind first time champion University of Illinois Springfield who finished with 35 points. The team race came down to the closest score in GLVC Cross Country Championships history, a record previously held by Lewis in 2004 when they knocked of Southern Indiana by 2 points, and Southern Indiana who knocked off Wisconsin Parkside in 2015 by 2 points as well.

Women's Cross Country Captures GLVC Title at GLVC XC Championships
ELASH, Ill. -- The Lewis University women's cross country team won the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship title at Principia College Cross Country Course hosted by McKendree University. The team finished with 44 points, 18 points over runner up Southwest Baptist who scored 62. The Flyers had 7 runners place in the top 16 and earn all GLVC Honors.

Zeta Xi Chapter Wins National Award for Service
The Zeta Xi Chapter in Lewis University's College of Business was recently recognized by the national business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi for its outstanding service. The national award for Outstanding Service Award for a Collegiate Chapter is presented on an annual basis to the collegiate chapter of Delta Sigma Pi that plans and implements the most effective and comprehensive program of service to others.

Six Students Honored as Inaugural Inductees of Pi Theta Epsilon - Occupational Therapy National Honor Society
Six Lewis University students were recently inducted into Pi Theta Epsilon - Occupational Therapy National Honor Society. A ceremony was held for the inaugural inductees on September 8 at Lewis University in Romeoville. Elizabeth Carignan, Sokea Chidlow, Rachel Eriksen, Miranda Grizaffi, Nicole Santillo, and Rachel Schneider are the first Lewis University students to be initiated into Pi Theta Epsilon.

Flyers Finish Second Overall at National Catholic Championships
Lewis University's men's cross country team found success once again at Notre Dame's National Catholic Championships coming in second overall with 64 points and was the top finisher among non-Division I schools on Friday (Sept. 17) in South Bend, Ind. The Flyers had four runners place in the top 20. Anthony Farmer (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) and Dustin Macuiba (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) finished fifth and 10th for the Flyers with times of 25:05.5 and 25:48.5 in the 8-kilometer (4.9 mile) race. Farmer had an average mile time of 5:02.8 while Macuiba averaged 5.11.5 per mile. Garret White and Anthony Pena (East Moline, Ill./Pleasant Valley (Iowa)) finished 12th and 14th in the race with times of 25:59.1 and 26:11.8. White averaged 5:13.6 per mile and Pena averaged 5:16.2. Zach Fresenko (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville), Charlie Wirth (Greenville, Wis./Hortonville), Sean Ryan (Independence, Ky./Saint Henry), and Joshua Segura placed 27th, 32nd, 35th, and 36th respectfully. They finished with times of 26:47.2, 26:57.6, 26:59.8, and 27:01.9.

Lewis University Students Play a Role in Shakespeare Production
"William Shakespeare's Long First Play (abridged)" written by Austin Tichenor and Reed Martin, will have performances October 1-3 and October 7-10 at Lewis University's Philip Lynch Theatre in Romeoville. Performances are 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinees are at 2:30 p.m. In addition, there is a matinee performance at 3:30 p.m. on October 9. Five Lewis University students perform the roles of over 50 characters. Zac Birgen of Waverly, Eduardo Cortez of Chicago, Katie Horn of Sturgis MI, John Kladis of Palos Hills and Alex Schedel of Bolingbrook are all players in a traveling theatre group that perform the found play. Philip Lynch Theatre Director Kevin Trudeau of Palos Hills directs the comedic play. Set and Lighting Designer Andrew Nelsen of Joliet creates a "Globe Theatre" inspired backdrop for the traveling theatre group. Costumer Celeste Mackey of Joliet has conceived of costumes that illustrate the zany and madcap quick changes the actors require. Working behind the scenes are Julia Egizio of Plainfield (stage manager), Lukas Roy of Palos Park (assistant stage manager), and Austin Jones of Steger (properties manager) and Dave Pomatto of Naperville (assistant technical director).

Lewis University Student Katie Ewing's Project Idea Wins Will County Contest
Lewis University sophomore Katie Ewing's submission for the garden design and install project at the National Hook-Up For Black Women Joliet Chapter, located at 1705 S. Richard Street in Joliet, was accepted by the Food for All for Healthier Communities Initiative. The garden site is on a seven-acre tract of land owned by the Laraway School District 70C. It's leased to the Joliet Chapter of the National Hookup of Black Women (NHBW). The site is located in the 60433 zip code which is classified as a "food desert."

Lewis University Philip Lynch Theatre Presents "The Romancers" Streaming Online
Local students are performing and producing "The Romancers", written by French dramatist and poet Edmond Rostand. The Lewis University Philip Lynch Theatre will stream performances on April 16-18 and April 22-25, 2021. The play is recommended for patrons 13 years and up. Evening performances are 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinees are at 2:30 p.m. In addition, there is a matinee performance at 3:30 p.m. on April 24.
