Majd Halabia Develops Android Apps in Class

2012 Jun 12

A weekend course on iOS development in which students will learn how to create apps for iPads, iPhones, and iPods will be offered Oct. 19-20 at Lewis University. Dr. Cynthia Kersey, assistant professor of Math/Computer Science will be teaching the course.

Last semester, she taught Mobile Application Development course in which students learned how to create applications for Android devices, including Android phones and tablets. Majd Halabia of Romeoville was among the 19 students divided into teams to create games and productivity software for Android devices. A version of the classic game Keno, a tower defense game, a personal fitness tracker, a Disney quiz game, a treasure hunt and a mobile campus guide are some of the apps the student teams created. Students used Eclipse, an Android emulator, and Android tablets to develop, deploy and test their games.

In 2010, The Princeton Review included Lewis University in its "Top 50 Undergraduate Game Design Programs" list. Lewis University's Mathematics and Computer Science program prepares students to be tomorrow's innovators and problem solvers. Students spend time practicing in the university's state-of-the-art computer labs, as well as businesses and organizations outside of the university. Using theoretical knowledge and technical skills, students acquire the experience necessary to form successful careers.
