The Omega Omicron Chapter of Beta Beta Beta (Tri-Beta), the honor society for Lewis University biology students, inducted 40 new members during a recent ceremony.

More than half of the inductees qualified for regular membership in Beta Beta Beta. To become a regular member, students must be a biology major, have taken no less than three semesters of coursework in the program and achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the major. Romeoville resident Kimberly Zaleski is a member of the honor society.

Students inducted as regular members include: Thara Abu-Mallouh, Alyssa Albert, Christen Alcordo, Mario Barrios, Taylor Benes, Nada Elsayed, Destiny Evans, Georgeann Garcia, Brianna Hopp, Bobbi Krivsky, Katelyn Lanasky, Leah Manning, Ashley Maghirang, Mary Martino, Amanda Miller, Stephanie Nielsen, Pinkal Patel, Nicholas Pietrek, Haleigh Saari, Jenna Saleh and Hannah Wills.

Associate membership is open to anyone who is interested in participating in group activities and promoting scientific scholarship and literacy. The associate members inducted include: Kamille Agustin, Liana Bueno, Ariel Colman, Mario Garcia, Kaetlyn Hernandez, Kaitlin Hitt, Sarah Kuczek, Kyle Leto, Bridget Murphy, Michael Newtoff, Nik Paramo, Jessica Perrino, Emily Richart, Kirsten Rothenbucher, Kelly Scheer, Cristian Silva, Sarah Simar, Ruth Velazquez and Lauren Werth.

New members Jenna Saleh, Thara Abu-Mallouh, Mario Barrios, Hannah Wills and Stephanie Brandner assume the roles of president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and historian, respectively.

During the ceremony, Dr. Jennifer Roberts, faculty advisor of Beta Beta Beta, and Dr. Jerry Kavouras, chair of biology, recognized the 31 graduating members of the organization and distributed honor cords to all regular members to be worn at the graduation ceremony.

Graduating members of Beta Beta Beta include: Leigh Barea, Jacob Berndl, Sean Cleary, Ariel Colman, Erin Cox, Kaitlyn Curtis, Kristen Czech, Mutasem Daineh, Cody Drozd, Andrew Gestautas, Taha Ghouleh, Mariana Gonzalez, Navadee Gonzalez, Araceli Gutierrez, Kathleen Hallenbeck, Jaimie Hughes, Dan Lentz, Sarah Linchester, Leah Manning, Pinkal Patel, Nicholas Pietrek, Nicholas Pitsoulakis, Joseph Sanavaitis, Amber Schaar, Leigh Smith, William Sideras, Alyssa Szponder, Edwin Welsh, James Williams, Margarita Velmozhina and Kimberly Zaleski.

Since its inception in 1999, members of the Omega Omicron chapter have been involved in a wide variety of scientific and research oriented activities. These range from summer research programs to organizing an annual 10K walk that benefits research Cystic Fibrosis. Students organize alumni and health professions speaker series each year, have established numerous charitable drives (beneficiaries include Ronald McDonald House and Chicago public schools), and are visible in all aspects of academic and student life across the university.
