Elizabeth Roush of South Bend takes Lewis University travel study program to Italy

2015 Jun 12

Rome, Assisi, and Florence were destinations for the Lewis University Travel Study trip May 9-19. For more than a decade, the Italy travel study trip has been a cornerstone of Lewis University Study Abroad program. This year, the 20 students enrolled in either Theology Professor Dr. Dominic Colonna's Christian Faith and the Arts course or in History Professor Dr. Dennis H. Cremin's Culture and Civilization I or Ancient World course. South Bend resident Elizabeth Roush was one of the student participants.

"I thought the Italy Travel Study was an amazing adventure. It helped me understand the history of Italy, but also taught me about what the culture of Italy is like today. It is an experience that I think everyone at Lewis should have," Elizabeth Roush, an education student, said.

Students used a place-based learning approach at historic sites and museums that included the Colosseum, St. Peter's Basilica, and Florence's Uffizi Gallery, which is the premier museum of Renaissance art.

This year's participants included students from several Lewis University colleges, including Arts and Sciences, Nursing, Education, and the School for Professional and Continuing Education.
