Andrea Earnest of Lemont Wins Award for TheLewisFlyer.com at National College Media Convention

2012 Nov 30

TheLewisFlyer.com placed ninth for "Best in Show" in the Website Enrollment Level 1 category and presented in a session focused on social media at the National College Media Convention in Chicago.

"It's great to see the students get recognized for their hard work this year," said Ben Eveloff, TheLewisFlyer.com Adviser and Assistant Professor in Lewis University's Communications department.

Lewis University students David Hansen, editor-in-Chief of TheLewisFlyer.com, and Michael Gates, assistant editor, along with Eveloff, also presented "Beyond Facebook and Twitter: Building a Social Media Strategy" Nov. 2 at the conference. During the presentation, Hansen, Gates and Eveloff spoke to approximately 100 advisers and students about how TheLewisFlyer.com implements social media, such as SoundCloud, Spotify, Google+ and Instagram. They also provided specifics on how they are making Spotify playlists for faculty and how they are using Instagram to post pictures of Lewis University pride.

"I enjoyed meeting other students from across the country, and was glad that we could share with them what we've been doing here at Lewis University," said Gates. "It was very inspiring to me as a student journalist, and I can honestly say that I learned so much from this experience."

The conference also offered attendees the opportunity to participate in a variety of sessions with top professionals from around the country, such as a former Atlanta-based Associated Press crime reporter and the current ChicagoBlackhawks.com web producer.

Hansen and Gates are excited to take what they have learned at the conference and apply it to TheLewisFlyer.com. "The opportunity to attend and present at the NCMC is a great example of why I am proud to say I am a student at Lewis University," Hansen added.
